Shikha and Anurag completed their graduation in Civil Engineering from REC Kurukshetra in 1997. They met each other in college and the pull of a common destiny made them tie the marriage knot. While in college itself, Shikha and Anurag decided not to follow the conventional trail but to search a way of life that was meaningful, sane and one that leads to inner richness rather than materialistic pleasures.
After doing a brief stint in the corporate world, Shikha and Anurag joined The School - Krishnamurti Foundation of India (KFI), where they were drawn by the teachings of philosopher J. Krishnamurti. It was here that they developed a vision for an alternative and holistic education system that is based on collective inquiry.
Though KFI was a rich ground for innovations in education, they felt that the system was addressing only students from the upper income strata of society, while the underprivileged remained untouched. They felt a need to provide opportunities for the marginalized.
NEEV was born as a result of the questions that Shikha and Anurag sought answers for, as a non-profit Trust in 2006. Through NEEV they were interested in finding a sane way of living, not only for the self but for the other too - for the sociosphere, biosphere and the geosphere. As education remained their primary tool for individual transformation, they started NEEV School for the urban and rural underprivileged children in the year 2006, to provide them with Integral Education.
One of the constant and key challenges that Shikha and Anurag faced were related to funding and sustainability of the organization. So in 2007 they started NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps, a social enterprise which would generate profits for NEEV but at the same time honoring the triple bottom line of People - Planet - Profit. Shikha has been actively overseeing the work of NEEV Herbal Handmade Soaps since then.
After innumerable engagements with the world, the challenges of organization building, sustainability and readings primarily of J. Krishnamurti and David Korten, Anurag and Shikha have been designing NEEV as an Integral Community.
Anurag maintains a blog on the kind of self inquiry that goes into Integral Living at NEEV Community for Integral Living
As a recognition for their work Anurag and Shikha have been a recipient of various State Level and National Level Awards
